PAARL: Ideal lucerne farm to lease

Situated on the South-Eastern side of Paarl, this 30-hectare farm boasting sandy-loam soil, is waiting to be planted with lucerne or any other produce.

Ample mountain spring water is available.

Lucerne, a perennial summer legume, is well-adapted to almost all areas of South Africa, but prefers deep, well-drained soils with a neutral to high pH.

More than enough crystal-clear mountain water, stored in a large earth dam, is available for irrigation.

Long-standing suppliers of equine farms have started to export most of their product, steadily increasing the domestic demand for high-quality lucerne. With access to ample water and good soil, one can take advantage of this demand, and fill the gap in the local market.

With proper irrigation and fertilising, and up to 6 cuts per season, a hectare of lucerne can produce high yields of between 18-30 tonnes of dry matter per ha. per season. The market price of lucerne fluctuates according to the season, and can earn the producer between R1,800 and R3,200 per ton.

There is no building infrastructure at the property, but storage is available on the adjacent farm.

Farms like this rarely become available on a lease.

Please contact if you are interest in an initial 5-year contract.
