Hester Steynberg

Hester knows the Eastern Cape and enjoy the tranquillity that comes from living in a small town.

Although she was born in Durban, her family moved to the Karoo where she matriculated in Graaff-Reinet. She continued her education and completed her nursing studies in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town; after which she explored the world for a year on a backpacking expedition. Her travels took her through UK and Europe, to Scandinavia and Israel before settling down in Graaff-Reinet, where she met up with JP, an old school friend who later became her husband.
Now they farm with cattle and Dohne Merinos at Ganora farm, which borders the small village of Nieu-Bethesda.

Hester has been an estate agent for over two decades before she moved over to Agrisell. She loves the Karoo and especially the small village of Nieu-Bethesda and its surrounds where she sells residential properties.

“Here in the Karoo, we have wide open spaces and people who still care for each other.” It makes her happy to help people find their dream homes in which they can live out their ideal Karoo lifestyle.
Her tip for people wanting to move to the Eastern Cape: “Do research on how well the different municipalities are managed, and look for a property that has a borehole. Since water availability in the Eastern Cape is vital.”

Hester and JP have two sons. Louis joined them on the farm while Renier moved to Rotterdam in 2020. Her family run a guest farm and a B&B, offering day trips to explore the fossils, San paintings and medicinal plants of the area.
“We love to share our knowledge on these subjects with study groups and researchers from all over the world.”
